Trump GOP primary challenger: ‘I’ve given up on the Republican Party’

Joe Walsh, one of President Trump’s Republican challengers, said that he has given up on the Republican Party even though he is seeking its nomination.

“I’ve given up on the Republican Party. The Republican Party is a cult,” the former Illinois congressman said Monday on CNN. “They no longer stand for ideas. The Republican Party right now is all about washing their leader’s feet every day.”

Walsh, 57, added that he planned on taking his case directly to the voters to bypass the Republican Party.

The Illinois Republican announced in August his challenge to Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

Since his announcement along with fellow challengers Mark Sanford and Bill Weld, several states announced they are not planning on holding primaries in 2020.

“Trump, and his allies, and the Republican National Committee are doing whatever they can do to eliminate primaries in certain states and make it very difficult for primary challengers to get on the ballot in a number of states,” Walsh said in response.
