Liberal activist organizations that featured prominently in disrupting Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings a year ago called for the Supreme Court justice to be impeached in the wake of a resurfaced sexual misconduct allegation against him.
“The evidence that Kavanaugh committed perjury in his Senate testimony is mounting. Brett Kavanaugh is unfit to sit as a Supreme Court justice in the face of so many credible allegations that he sexually assaulted these women. House Democrats must not delay in launching an impeachment probe,” the statement read, which was issued jointly by Women’s March, Center for Popular Democracy, and Demand Justice.
“This new report corroborates the allegations made by Debbie Ramirez and proves the FBI investigation conducted last year was a sham from the start,” they continued. “At this point, an impeachment inquiry in the House is the only appropriate way to conduct the fact-finding that Senate Republicans refused to conduct.” The groups urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler to begin an impeachment inquiry against Kavanaugh, a sentiment that several 2020 Democrats have echoed.
Women’s March and the Center for Popular Democracy formed the nexus of the coalition that sought to derail Kavanaugh’s confirmation last fall. The continuous outbursts that disrupted the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings were intended as acts of “civil disobedience,” according to reporters with the Daily Caller News Foundation who listened in on a conference call among the activists last year. The groups, which are funded by wealthy liberals and organizations such as Planned Parenthood, offered cash to some of the protesters who were arrested to cover their post-and-forfeits, according to the conference call. The groups plan to mark the one-year anniversary of Kavanaugh’s Oct. 6 confirmation with protests in Washington, D.C.
The New York Times published an additional allegation of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh on Saturday, in which a male classmate at Yale claims he “saw Mr. Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student.” The claim was similar to that of Deborah Ramirez, who claimed Kavanaugh thrust his penis into her face during a drunken college party. Kavanaugh has denied that he is guilty of any of these sex crimes. President Trump accused “Radical Left Democrats” on Sunday of colluding with the “LameStream media” in trying to destroy Kavanaugh, and publicly urged him to “start suing for libel.”
