GOP lawmaker Tim Walberg: God ‘can take care of’ climate change

A Republican congressman told his constituents he believes God “can take care of” climate change in a town hall last week.

“I believe there’s climate change,” Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., said to residents of Coldwater. “I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I think there are cycles. Do I think that man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.”

He added, “As a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who’s much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

Walberg told residents he wants to take care of the environment in order to honor God.

“We ought to be good stewards,” he said. “He gave us a treasure.”

Walberg’s comments came a few days before President Trump tweeted he would announce his decision on whether the United States will pull out of the Paris Agreement on climate change in the next few days. Axios has reported he will announce he’s pulling the U.S. from the agreement.
