LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — A former state district judge who resigned as Lubbock’s city attorney amid allegations that he had sexually assaulted a woman has now been indicted on 10 sexual assault counts.

A special Lubbock County grand jury returned the indictment Thursday against former judge Sam Medina. The estranged wife of a relative accused Medina during a divorce action of sexually assaulting her.

Medina is free on $30,000 bond.

Medina resigned as city attorney in March after holding a January news conference in which he aired the allegations against him and placed himself on paid leave. Medina’s attorney, Rod Hobson, called the charges “baseless” and “false” but a welcome opportunity for his client to fight the allegations in open court.
