‘His incompetence and lies’: Barbra Streisand blames Trump for 20,000-plus coronavirus deaths

Actress and singer Barbra Streisand claimed 20,000 people have died because of President Trump’s “incompetence and lies” about the coronavirus.

Streisand said Sunday that Trump is “unfit to lead this nation … especially in a time of crisis” and laid the deaths of the thousands of coronavirus victims at his feet.

“I wrote a song called ‘Don’t Lie to Me’ after Trump was elected, because he was a serial liar. Now, with more than 20,000 people dead because of his incompetence and lies, he’s proven that he can’t handle the truth. He’s unfit to lead this nation…especially in a time of crisis,” she tweeted.

“I just can’t stand what’s going on,” Streisand said when the song was released in 2018. “His assault on our democracy, our institutions, our founders — I think we’re in a fight. … We’re in a war for the soul of America.”

Streisand also wrote on Sunday, “Trump is obsessed with wasting money on his wall. Maybe all that money should have been spent on testing, ventilators and personal protective equipment for our health care professionals. The virus doesn’t care about the wall that he falsely said Mexico was paying for.”

She follows a long list of Hollywood celebrities criticizing the president, his family, and his administration during the pandemic.

Actor Michael Rapaport shared a meme saying followers should “never forget” first lady Melania Trump and the president are “a hooker and a con man.” Actress Debra Messing, actor Alec Baldwin, and comedian Jason Alexander have also criticized Trump amid the coronavirus. The pandemic has killed more than 22,000 people in the United States.
