SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A bill working through the state Legislature would make California the first state to require insurers to cover fertility treatments for patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious diseases.
The legislation from Democratic Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva of Fullerton would require insurance providers to cover fertility services for patients who may become infertile due to other medical treatments. Treatments covered under AB912 include extracting eggs and freezing sperm.
