Bicycle riders, racers and enthusiasts pedaled at Patterson Park and into the streets of Baltimore on Saturday at the eighth annual Bike Jam Festival.
With more than 600 bicycle racers competing in a series of events throughout the day, and a hundred or so taking a more leisurely pace on bicycle excursions around the city, the day was packed with bike love, a festival promoter said.
“It was great,” said Gardner Duvall. Bike Jam drew about 5,000 people into the park, he said, and “a lot of happy smiles.”
The youngest racers were 11 years old, but even younger children didn?t come away from the day empty-handed, Duvall said. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield gave away 500 bike helmets to children, and the festival raised about $7,500 for the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital.
