A water main break closed a section of York Road in Cockeysville on Wednesday, and it might not reopen for three days, authorities said.
The aging cast-iron pipe burst at about 3 a.m., closing York Road in both directions between Railroad and Wight avenues, officials said.
Workers expected to finish fixing the broken pipe and restore water to the area businesses that lost their supplies by Wednesday evening, a spokesman for the city?s Department of Public Works said. Repairing and reopening the street might take several days beyond that, officials said.
The same stretch of water pipe has broken several times in the past few years, officials said. It?s slated to be replaced as part of an $18 million project putting in new water pipes in the county in the next few years, an official with the county?s Department of Public Works said.
Guests at the Hampton Inn in the 11000 block of York Road were allowed to cancel their reservations without charge Wednesday because of the lack of water at the hotel, according to an employeethere.
