American citizen released from Saudi prison after nearly two years

A doctor with dual Saudi-American citizenship who was imprisoned and reportedly tortured in Saudi Arabia for 21 months has been released to his family.

Saudi authorities allowed Dr. Walid Fitaihi to return to his home in Jidda on Wednesday night, sources close to Fitaihi’s family told the New York Times. Saudi Arabia held Fitaihi, who earned his license to practice medicine in Boston, for nearly two years for reasons that remain unclear.
