What is a nor’easter?

A nor’easter is a large storm, most common in winter, that travels south to northeast with winds coming from the northeast and characteristics similar to a hurricane. A nor’easter is expected to coincide with Hurricane Sandy on Monday, intensifying the storm’s effect. A nor’easter often causes dramatic flooding and coastal erosion as well as hurricane-force winds.
