Michelle Obama stays at $23M ‘shark house’ in Hollywood Hills

Michelle Obama stayed at a ritzy mansion in Hollywood Hills this week known as the “shark house.”

The 12,800-square-foot property, located on Swallow Drive near Sunset Strip with a sweeping view of Los Angeles, is on sale for $22.9 million. The former first lady stayed there Monday through Tuesday, TMZ reports.

Obama was in town for meetings related to the Netflix deal she has secured with her husband. She also stopped by talent agent Bryan Lourd and spouse Bruce Bozzi’s house in Westwood for a gathering of about 50 people which included producer and film writer Shonda Rhimes and director Spike Jonze, according to Deadline.

Obama was “amazing,” “candid,” and “refreshing” as she delivered informal remarks about the work of the Obama Foundation, one attendee told the outlet.

One real estate source told TMZ that Obama may have rented the “shark house” to get a sense of the neighborhood. It is unclear how much Obama may have paid for the stay, if anything at all.

The Obamas currently live in the Kalorama neighborhood in Washington, D.C. The plan was for them to stay in town after leaving the White House while younger daughter Sasha finished high school. Sasha graduated in June.

The “shark house” features an open-air aquarium with sharks and other fish. TMZ sources said the home has “incredible security” present but the owner had to have all security cameras turned off for Obama’s stay.

Reports have indicated this is the same $35 million property that was profiled by Curbed Los Angeles in 2018, and includes seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a “wellness center,” wine cellar, humidor, and freezer for tequila. The house is listed by luxury real estate agents Tomer Frideman and Kurt Rappaport.
