It’s not a knock on Mike Dunlap that he’s been named coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. It says plenty about the franchise that he’s joined.
After finishing with the worst winning percentage in NBA history last year, the Bobcats need players more than they need a big-name coach. A longtime college coach, Dunlap was also once George Karl’s assistant in Denver. Hiring a guy who is making the jump from associate head coach at St. John’s to the NBA is almost certainly a cost-effective decision for Charlotte.
