Conway defends Trump’s immigration order: ‘Nonsense that this is a Muslim ban’

A senior White House official on Sunday said it is wrong to call President Trump’s decision to restrict immigration from seven Muslim countries a “Muslim ban.”

“These seven countries. What about the 46 majority Muslim countries that are not included?” Kellyanne Conway asked Fox News’ Chris Wallace.

“It totally undercuts this nonsense that this is a Muslim ban,” she said.

Trump used his executive authority on Friday to halt immigration to the U.S. from Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Libya, arguing that doing so will boost national security by making it harder for terorrists to enter the country.

“This is a ban on prospective travel from countries, trying to prevent terrorists in this country, from countries that have a recent history of training and exporting and harboring terrorists,” she said.

A portion of the ban that would have enabled the govenment to deport recent arrivals was blocked by a federal judge on Saturday.
