DC man shot dead while holding hands with 5-year-old and carrying infant: Police

A Washington, D.C., man was shot and killed Friday morning while he was walking with a 5-year-old and carrying a car seat holding an infant.

The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. while the man was walking by an apartment in Northeast D.C., according to police.

“This is a really disturbing event, and we really need the public’s help in this,” Cmdr. William FitzGerald of the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The victim was “walking down the street,” holding hands with the 5-year-old and carrying the infant when “a male approached him and fired several times,” FitzGerald said.

The relationship between the children and the victim has yet to be determined, but the two children are reportedly safe with their mother.

“Who knows the long-term effects of this,” FitzGerald said.

The shooter was described as a man wearing gray sweatpants, a black mask, and a light-colored sweatshirt, according to police.

No arrest related to the shooting has been made, according to a report.
