Kanye West’s hypothetical presidential run may be picking up steam from his supporters and the artist himself after a series of pro-Trump tweets on New Year’s Day and another that simply said “2024,” referencing the first presidential election year in which Trump couldn’t run if he served a two-year term.

“One of my favorite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can’t tell me what to do because I’m black,” West wrote, referring to the Trump campaign’s “Make America Great Again” cap on his verified Twitter account: @ye.

West, who made numerous media appearances in 2018 wearing a signature Trump “MAGA” hat that he said made him feel like “Superman,” distanced himself from politics in October after a falling out with conservative pundit Candace Owens, who said West collaborated with her to make a “Blexit” shirt design, meant to signify the separation of black Americans from the Democratic party. Owens recently said that there was no “bad blood” between the two.
West’s additional tweets included a proclamation that he would perform with his MAGA hat “from now on” and a criticism of the majority of African-Americans who support the Democratic party.
