TRACKING SYSTEM OUT: A plan to create a national tracking system for prescription drugs has been dropped from congressional legislation designed to bolster the safety of the U.S. pharmaceutical supply.

NO COMPROMISE: Drugmakers and government regulators support a track-and-trace system, saying it could prevent stolen or counterfeit drugs from entering the U.S. But lawmakers said they were unable to find a compromise between differing views of the system.
