In an effort to speed up installation of its fiber optic cable Internet and television services, Verizon will hire 110 additional workers in Northern Virginia, company officials announced Monday. The company has been laying millions of miles of fiber optic cable throughout counties in both Northern Virginia and Maryland over the last two years as it gains approval from city and county governments to bring its services to the region.
Verizon’s FiOS services, which include Internet, television and phone, put it in head-to-head competition with existing providers Cox Communications and Comcast.
