AMERICAN AIRLINES ENDS SERVICE TO THREE NORTHEAST CITIES DUE TO PILOT SHORTAGE
Delta Air Lines has canceled nearly 200 flights and delayed more than 100. Meanwhile, United Airlines has canceled more than 100 flights across the nation.
“Delta teams continue to safely manage through compounding factors affecting our operation, including higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some of our work groups, weather and air traffic control constraints. Canceling a flight is always our last resort, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for any disruption to their travel plans,” Delta told the Washington Examiner in a statement.
Airlines have been struggling to fill staff positions, including finding new pilots. Just last week, American Airlines canceled services to three cities due to a shortage of pilots.

In May, Delta reduced the education requirements to become a pilot by removing the four-year college requirement. American reduced the emphasis it put on a bachelor’s degree in hiring.
