The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin critiques Crockett’s Senate bid as ‘not about the people’

The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said Tuesday that Rep. Jasmine Crockett‘s (D-TX) announcement will not win over most voters in the “red state” of Texas, prompting some disagreement from her co-hosts.

Crockett announced her candidacy for the 2026 Texas Senate race on Monday in a video, playing a montage of comments and insults President Donald Trump has made against her. Griffin said the ad is good if one is vying to become “the face of the resistance,” but Crockett needs to clarify what she supports if she wants to win in Texas, a state Trump won in all three of his presidential elections.

“This is my frustration,” Griffin said. “If purely being against Donald Trump was a winning strategy, Dems would have beat him in 2016 and they would have beat him in 2024. I would love to hear, ‘I’m Jasmine Crockett, and I’m going to fight for affordability. I’m going to fight for the working class. I’m going to bring manufacturing back.’ Talking about issues, Texans aren’t looking for you to take on Donald Trump, they just want competent leadership for the states.”

Griffin added that Crockett’s campaign announcement was about her opposition to the president, “and not about the people.” Co-host Joy Behar partially agreed, countering that Crockett has only released one campaign ad thus far, telling Griffin to “give the girl a minute.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin, meanwhile, said she “loved” Crockett’s announcement, adding that she believes the United States needs “an opposition party.” She said the Democratic Party does not need “business as usual,” and said New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is proof of this.

Crockett said on CNN that her Senate campaign ad focused on Trump’s insults because “I am the one that he is afraid of.” She added that Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) “cannot stop tweeting about me,” and said she knows this is “out of fear.”

Crockett will face competition in the Democratic primary for this Senate seat, as state Rep. James Talarico is also seeking to become the nominee. Talarico released a video on X encouraging his campaign workers to treat Crockett “with the utmost respect.”

CROCKETT SAYS HER GOAL IS TO ‘TALK TO PEOPLE’ NOT ‘CONVERT’ TRUMP SUPPORTERS

Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha expressed serious doubt that Crockett can win this race, suggesting the “unserious candidate” is more likely to “make the leap to television.”

On the Republican side, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is seeking a fifth term. He will face Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) as primary opponents.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Crockett for comment.
