Chris Rock jokes about getting ‘most of my hearing back’ after Will Smith slap

Chris Rock made a quick comedy bit at a show Thursday night out of getting slapped by Will Smith at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

The comedian, who has largely steered clear of the slap controversy since hosting the Oscars in March, joked about getting “most of my hearing back” at London’s Royal Albert Hall, according to the Telegraph.

“Don’t expect me to talk about the bulls***,” he told the crowd. “I’ll talk about it at some point … on Netflix. Your tickets were expensive, but not THAT expensive.”

Rock previously joked about the slap when fellow comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage on May 4, asking if Chappelle’s attacker was Smith.

Smith slapped Rock onstage at the 2022 Academy Awards after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The attack resulted in Smith being banned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from attending the Academy Awards show for 10 years.

Smith apologized to Rock the day after the awards ceremony, saying his actions “were not indicative of the man I want to be.” He also resigned from the Academy.

“There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” Smith said.
