‘It’s not enough’: Pelosi modeling new economic package on $2.2 trillion relief measure

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she’s drafting a new economic relief package that would compare in size and cost with the historic $2.2 trillion measure signed into law last week by President Trump.

She appears willing to wait for some of the major provisions she would like to include, such as an infrastructure reform plan.

“Right now, we need a fourth bipartisan bill, and I think the bill could be very much like the bill we just passed,” Pelosi told CNBC.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, told the network the new bill should include more of the same provisions in the latest coronavirus relief package, including another direct cash payment to individuals and families, extending unemployment insurance by an additional two months, and more aid to small businesses, who received $367 billion in the last measure.

“We have a good model,” Pelosi said. “It was bipartisan, signed by the president, but it’s not enough.”

Pelosi said she was willing to wait to pass legislation that would expand broadband access and rebuild crumbling water infrastructure, as well as other wish list items Democrats have been proposing for a fourth measure.

“That may have to be for a bill beyond this right now,” Pelosi said.
