Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had nothing to say about former President Donald Trump when asked about the insult lodged against him over the weekend.
“What I’m concentrating on is the future,” McConnell told a reporter who asked about Trump’s weekend speech.
Trump, in a speech to a private donor audience at Mar-a-Lago, called McConnell a “dumb son of a b—-,” according to reports. Trump included other criticism of McConnell in the nearly hourlong speech.

McConnell in February voted to acquit Trump of a House impeachment charge of inciting a riot ahead of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Following his vote, McConnell took to the Senate floor to condemn Trump’s actions after the November election and leading up to and during the riot at the Capitol.
“The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president,” McConnell said after Trump’s acquittal. McConnell said he voted to acquit the president because he believes the Senate cannot convict a president who is no longer in office.
Trump and McConnell have not spoken in months. McConnell said on Tuesday that he is focused on regaining the Senate majority and working to stop the agenda of “a totally left-wing administration” and the Senate Democrats.
“That’s what I’m concentrating on,” McConnell said.

McConnell also declined to comment on the decision by the Senate’s GOP campaign arm last weekend to give Trump its first annual “Champion for Freedom” award.
