A SuperShuttle van transporting three passengers was driving east from Washington Dulles International Airport at about 7:30 a.m. when the vehicle struck a concrete barrier, said Rob Yingling, spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
One passenger was ejected from the van onto the highway and killed, Yingling said.
Two other passengers were taken to area hospitals.
Police have charged the driver of the van, Macadolf Hoffman, 59, with reckless driving. If he is found guilty, it will be his second reckless driving conviction. He received his first reckless driving charge in December, according to WUSA9.
200-plus D.C. fugitives turn themselves in
More than 200 people with outstanding warrants in the District turned themselves in Saturday for the first of three “D.C. Safe Surrender” days. The city program encourages people with traffic violations, probation offenses or bench warrants to avoid arrest.
Judges and attorneys are present during the weekend sessions to expedite the process. Residents wanted for violent felonies or crimes of domestic abuse are not eligible for the voluntary surrender. Of the 226 people who showed up, 98 percent returned home that day.
The program will run for the remaining Saturdays in August.
Man gets 10 years for trafficking girl, 16
A 36-year-old Virginia man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sex trafficking of a girl under the age of 16.
According to the U.S. Attorney for Maryland, Duane Mason of Fredericksburg was arrested at a Gaithersburg hotel after undercover police responded to an online advertisement in April 2010.
Prosecutors said the teenage girl’s family had reported her missing four days earlier. Mason took suggestive photos of the girl with another female who worked for him, prosecutors said. He then posted an ad in the escort section of Backpage.com that included three images of the girl in sexually suggestive poses.
