Police have arrested a man in Washington, D.C., after a nearly 10-hour-long standoff that took place on Wednesday evening.
Officers found a naked man, identified as Deandre Bigesby, 39, walking back and forth on porch roofs and trying to swing on power lines in the Brightwood Park neighborhood, police told the Washington Examiner. Police said Bigesby, who got redressed during the incident, is considered to be experiencing a mental health crisis, according to NBC Washington.
Police were alerted at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday about a “man with a gun” on Georgia Avenue and pursued Bigesby into an alley near 1200 Jefferson St. NW. Bigesby then fired at one of the officers and fled into a building in the neighborhood, dropping a black bag he was carrying that held a scale and four bags of marijuana, police said.

Once inside the house, Bigesby got onto the roof of his building, threw his gun away, and began walking back and forth up the row of 11 homes on the block, “destroying windows, guttering systems, and TV Satellite dishes” as he went, according to police. He was eventually arrested at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, with the standoff lasting about 9 1/2 hours, police said.
Bigesby has been charged with eight offenses, which include assault on a police officer, burglary in the second degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm, and destruction of property, according to police.
