Marc Jonathan Ficarra survived three tours of duty in Iraq, but he died on the streets of D.C.
The killing took place about 3 a.m. Jan. 21, 2006, a Saturday morning in Adams Morgan. The 34-year-old sergeant in the Air Force was with a group of friends and was headed back to a parking garage on the 2300 block of 18th Street. Three men approached, one began to grope a woman in Ficarra’s group, and he turned to defend her. A blow to the face and the impact of the fall are believed to have caused Ficarra’s death.
