Normally when you think of bulletproof glass or armor on a vehicle, it’s for a world leader or dignitary. Now, some owners of high-end vehicles, including BMWs and Lamborghinis, are equipping their rides in the hopes of preventing crime.
Such measures are reportedly happening in and around New York City, where crime levels remain high. In some cases, thieves have reportedly broken into homes and stolen key fobs, while others have taken the more brazen approach of trying to steal a vehicle at gunpoint. In the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, carjackings have more than doubled.
“People need to understand one simple fact: They need protection,” Bespoke Home & Yacht Security CEO Matthias Fitzthum said, according to a New York Post report. “An alarm system isn’t protection. They need hardware to protect their family and themselves.”
The vehicle safety measures come with a hefty price tag, however, as each vehicle can cost up to $1.5 million.
Other features offered include windows that can only open a few centimeters to allow documents to be passed outside and microphones to listen to any potential criminals surrounding the vehicle.
Fitzthum explained how people leaving their cars are “taking full risk” with their property and underlined the need for proper protection.

The CEO stated that he has a waiting list of clients that will last him through mid-2025 and cited the “absolutely insane” state of crime for the number of customers he has.
