Police search for suspects in two Metro carjackings

Police are searching for four men who they believe robbed, then carjacked a father and daughter inside Metro’s Largo Town Center parking garage Wednesday morning, shooting the woman and clobbering her dad on the head. The men also may have carjacked another man at the New Carrollton station parking lot Friday morning in the same way, then used his car to pull off Wednesday’s attack.

The latest robbery occurred at 7:15 a.m. inside the garage at the Prince George’s County Metro stop, a busy time at the station.

They ask anyone with information about the car or the four attackers to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
Suicide attempt slows train at Metro Center
A man was hit by a Blue Line train at Metro Center Wednesday afternoon, the latest suicide attempt on the transit system.
The man was hit at 12:49 p.m. by a train headed to Largo Town Center, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel. Witnesses told Metro that he intentionally jumped from the platform, he said.
The man survived and had to be pulled out from under the train, said D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Pete Piringer. He was rushed to a local trauma center with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Trains were forced to share a single track between McPherson Square and Federal Triangle.

A 21-year-old woman and her 54-year-old father had parked in the station and were headed down from the fifth floor when they were robbed in the garage stairwell by four men wearing ski masks, said Metro Transit Police Deputy Chief Ronald Pavlik.

The commuters from Bowie resisted and the attackers shot the woman in her abdomen area and hit her father over the head, possibly with a gun, he said.

Then the robbers took off in an orange Chevy Camaro.

The pair was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The attack was similar to another robbery and carjacking that occurred at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the New Carrollton station, Pavlik said. A man in his 50s was also robbed and carjacked of his gray 2004 Audi station wagon. He suffered minor injuries.

That Audi was spotted at the Largo garage around the time of Wednesday’s attack, Pavlik said. Police believe the four carjackers used the stolen wagon to enter the Largo garage.

Police recovered the stolen Camaro on Banneker Drive north of the National Arboretum in Northeast D.C. later Wednesday and were processing evidence from it. They also were reviewing videotape from the parking garage.

But they are asking for the public’s help to find the stolen Audi.

In the meantime, Pavlik said police have stepped up patrols of the two parking garages and their other facilities.

New Carrollton and Largo were among the most dangerous Metro stations in 2010, with New Carrollton logging the most crimes and Largo ranking ninth. The Largo garage was also the site of a carjacking and two rapes last year.
