Washington Examiner White House reporter Naomi Lim suggested that pressure from President Donald Trump to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act may fall short of delivering electoral gains for Republicans heading into November’s midterm elections. 

The SAVE America Act, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), would require proof of citizenship and a valid ID before registering to vote. The legislation has become a key priority for Trump, despite facing an uncertain path in the Senate. Trump canceled the signing of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act last week, declaring that he would delay the signing until the SAVE Act was passed.
