Author and feminist Naomi Wolf is attempting to walk back her vote for President-elect Joe Biden after learning of his support for coronavirus lockdown measures.
“If I’d known Biden was open to ‘lockdowns’ as he now states, which is something historically unprecedented in any pandemic, and a terrifying practice, one that won’t ever end because elites love it, I would never have voted for him,” Wolf, a New York Times bestselling author and former Rhodes scholar, tweeted this week.

Several Twitter users responded to Wolf’s realization by pointing out that Biden has expressed support for coronavirus restrictions in the past.
“Were you under a rock?” Ret. Col. Rob Maness tweeted. “He ran on more lockdowns openly.”

Others expressed support for lockdowns, including several people claiming the method was effective in Melbourne, Australia.
Biden’s transition website reads: “Social distancing is not a light switch. It is a dial. President-elect Biden will direct the CDC to provide specific evidence-based guidance for how to turn the dial up or down relative to the level of risk and degree of viral spread in a community, including when to open or close certain businesses, bars, restaurants, and other spaces; when to open or close schools, and what steps they need to take to make classrooms and facilities safe; appropriate restrictions on size of gatherings; when to issue stay-at-home restrictions.”
This week, a member of Biden’s coronavirus response team advocated for a coronavirus lockdown in the United States lasting “four to six weeks.”
Last year, Wolf’s book Outrages: Sex, Censorship, and the Criminalization of Love was canceled by its publisher after significant errors were discovered.
