Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan, who is expected to attend Friday’s White House Digital Asset Roundtable at the invitation of President Donald Trump, donated roughly $100,000 to Democrats during the 2024 election cycle despite friends saying Coplan is “apolitical” and his own insistence that Polymarket is “deeply committed to being non-partisan.”
Coplan’s popularity with the online Right began to grow after the FBI raided his apartment in November 2024. Polymarket, which allows users to bet on the odds of real-life events and provides related odds, called the raid “political retribution” from the Biden administration after the platform correctly predicted that Trump would win the election. An NBC News report noted that Polymarket was not supposed to have allowed users in the United States to place bets at the time.
