Joe Walsh trying to woo George Conway to join his campaign

Conservative radio show host Joe Walsh met with George Conway in an effort to convince the lawyer and husband to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway to join his long-shot primary challenge to President Trump.

Walsh, a former one-term congressman from Illinois, is expected to announce his presidential campaign this weekend .

Walsh met with Conway on Thursday to ask if he would join his campaign in a senior position, the New York Times reported . The lawyer has never worked on a political campaign and did not commit to joining Walsh’s but said he would consider it.

“I think Walsh’s plan to attack Trump for his dishonesty, amorality, instability and incompetence is absolutely the right approach, and I’ll do whatever I can to help,” Conway said.

The meeting came the same day Kellyanne Conway was headlining a Trump campaign event in Tampa, Florida.

Conway supported Trump during the 2016 campaign, when his wife worked as the then-candidate’s campaign manager, but turned on him more than a year ago. He has been highly critical of his wife’s boss, attacking Trump’s mental state and calling for him to be removed from the presidency .

In response, Trump said Conway was a “total loser ” and a “husband from hell ” whose comments were “a tremendous disservice ” to his wife and four children.

Walsh also supported Trump’s election but said the president’s tweets, temperament, and attitude toward Russia have crossed a line.

Walsh himself has a history of making controversial comments, calling President Barack Obama a “Muslim” and “traitor.”

His presidential bid is unlikely to take off given Trump’s high approval ratings among Republican voters.
