Judge walks back ‘untenable’ order against Trump DOJ after tense DC golf course hearing

Published Updated

Just hours after issuing what a Trump administration lawyer called an “untenable” command from the bench, a federal judge withdrew her order that would have forced the Department of Justice to refile a court brief with the names of career attorneys who agreed with it, reversing course Monday after a court hearing about golf course renovations stretched beyond six hours.

“Having spoken with my clerks and thought about it a little bit more, I am going to withdraw the request that DOJ refile yesterday’s brief and that I get identification as to who signed,” U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes said after a break, which followed hours of frustrations by her and the federal government over the Trump administration’s planned East Potomac Golf Links renovations in the nation’s capital.
