New Jersey EMT faces 30 criminal charges after allegedly building a private arsenal of handguns and rifles

Police arrested a New Jersey emergency medical technician for allegedly possessing an arsenal of firearms he made himself and was not licensed to have.

Officers brought Michael V. Zaremski, 25, to a police station for an interview Monday after a woman filed a complaint about Zaremski, alleging he sent her pictures of “religious or ethnic insensitivity.” Officers found a handgun in his pocket that he had built himself, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

The discovery led to a police warrant and officers and state troopers raiding Zaremski’s apartment on Tuesday. Officers confiscated numerous handguns and rifles, and more than a dozen high-capacity magazines, all of which the EMT had manufactured.

"My goodness, that’s terrible," Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad President Robert Biamonte said. Zaremski worked at Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue, and Biamonte said Zaremski never showed signs of behavior that would be flagged in a background check.

Zaremski is facing about 30 counts of criminal conduct related to the weapons and several minor drug charges.
