Rachel Maddow breaks down in tears over report of immigrant babies being separated from parents: WATCH

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow broke down in tears at the end of her show Tuesday evening while attempting to read a report regarding the separation of young children from their families who were attempting to enter the U.S. between ports of entry.

As Maddow sought to share details from a new Associated Press report that babies other young children have been sent to several “tender shelters” in Texas, she was overcome with emotion and began to cry.

“Think I’m going to have to hand this off,” Maddow said after attempting to read information from the report.

Maddow later apologized for her tears and said, “If nothing else, it is my job to actually be able to speak while I'm on TV.” She also tweeted what she had been trying to read before she ended her show.

The comments from Maddow come amid widespread backlash to the Trump administration’s new zero tolerance policy to prosecute all illegal immigrants.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that more than 2,000 minors were separated from accompanying adults between the ports of entry since the zero tolerance policy took effect.

Minors who are split from their families as a result of the zero tolerance policy will be housed by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Earlier Tuesday, President Trump encouraged House Republicans to approve the two GOP immigration reform bills that will be voted on later this week. He also encouraged Congress to make a legislative change so children can remain with their families.
