Rep. Elise Stefanik released a scathing statement accusing a New York newspaper, the Times Union, of sexism in an article mocking her for not having any children.

“As a young married couple, we have developed a thick skin over many years as we have become accustomed to repeated sexist smears in media coverage,” Stefanik said in a statement posted to Twitter. “However, the Times Union’s decision to publish an article that mocked us as ‘childless’ is a new low and is truly heinous and wildly inappropriate. This shameful statement is not only inherently sexist, but also hateful, abusive, and heartless.”

Stefanik demanded a retraction from the publication for a blog post co-authored by Peter Marino and SUNY-Adirondack professor Lale Davidson, which the paper labeled as a “work of fiction.” The blog post told the story of Stefanik visiting an elementary school, taking jabs at her education and pandemic response positions as the story unfolded.
