Rep. Rashida Tlaib voted “no” on the Democratic Party’s 2020 platform because it does not include a single-payer healthcare plan.
“Today, I cast my DNC ballot and voted NO on the proposed platform,” Tlaib tweeted on Saturday along with a photo of her ballot. “I constantly hear from constituents demanding we push for a single-payer system and away from this for-profit system that is leaving people to suffer and die just because they cannot afford health care.”

“As a party, we must push for a future where every resident has the ability to thrive,” she continued. “That means we need a platform that works to rid our society of oppression and greed. Unfortunately, in my view this platform does not do enough.”

Instead of a “Medicare for All” proposal, the Democratic Party platform, which is slated to be approved by the convention this week, includes a public option for healthcare.
Tlaib, who is a member of the so-called squad of liberal freshman congresswomen, also revealed that she nominated Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for president instead of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Sanders dropped out of the presidential race in April, after securing an endorsement from Tlaib.
"We deserve someone who writes the damn bills," Tlaib said at a rally last year. "We deserve Bernie Sanders."
