The White House has worked overtime to direct blame for the government shutdown to Senate Democrats, and now it is getting some help from President Trump’s closest allies, his family.
Sons Donald Jr. and Eric, and Eric’s wife Lara, have hit Twitter with slams on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a bid to build on some polls showing that the public blames Democrats for the crisis.

Lara Trump, who’s Twitter feed leans heavily toward baby and pet mentions, Saturday dished a devil-red picture of Schumer with the hashtag #SchumerShutdown.
Her husband Eric retweeted that tweet and made one of his own with another photo of Schumer. He wrote: “The #SchumerShutdown is the EXACT reason #Congress has a mere 16% approval rating! Their games, finger pointing and inability to get anything accomplished is also the very reason why the American people elected @RealDonaldTrump as #POTUS! #DemocratShutdown #DontPayThem.”

Donald Trump Jr., who is often the most political of the president’s family on Twitter, retweeted several critical Schumer mentions.

Also getting in the act were social media director Dan Scavino Jr. and Vice President Pence.

Scavino posted a video of Schumer in 2013 blaming Republicans for that fall’s government shutdown and predicting a Democratic closure over immigration. Friday’s shutdown came over Democratic demands for an amnesty deal for some 700,000 illegals.
Rather than solve problems, Democratic leadership preferred a shutdown that has dangerous consequences for our national defense. Their action tonight – or lack thereof – is unconscionable. pic.twitter.com/NP0MGwHxjR

And Pence, on a trip to the Middle East, tweeted, “Rather than solve problems, Democratic leadership preferred a shutdown that has dangerous consequences for our national defense. Their action tonight – or lack thereof – is unconscionable.”
Schumer has fought back and blamed the shutdown on Trump. He tweeted out his own #TrumpShutdown image.
This will be called the #TrumpShutdown. There is no one who deserves the blame for the position we find ourselves in more than President Trump. pic.twitter.com/WE3SH9TpRU
