Rep. John Lewis calls GA candidate Ossoff the new JFK

He’s never held elective office and is in a tight special House election fight, but Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff has won a stunning comparison to former President John F. Kennedy by a civil rights hero and icon.

To a crowd of Ossoff supporters, Georgia Rep. John Lewis made the tie about his one-time intern.

“I’ve met every president since President Kennedy. And I tell you, President Kennedy young, smart and gifted. John Ossoff is young, smart and gifted,” he said to cheers.

The video, taken last Friday, was posted Monday on YouTube by Republican-leaning America Rising PAC. In an email, they said, “In the past Ossoff has been compared to Barack Obama. Now Congressman John Lewis is taking that already outrageous comparison, and stretching it to new heights.”

Ossoff is challenging Karen Handel for the seat opened when former Rep. Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The race has received tons of media attention as an indicator of President Trump’s support.

Ossoff almost won in an earlier election, but came up just shy of the needed 50 percent. A recent poll had him leading Handel.

Ossoff recently refused to attend a CNN debate with Handel, drawing media criticism. Paul Bedard, the Washington Examiner’s “Washington Secrets” columnist, can be contacted at [email protected]
