Indications that President Trump plans to give his acting chief of staff the job are winning applause throughout the West Wing. One insider said that Mick Mulvaney, a former House member and budget chief, “was made for the job.”
Another said that after just a few weeks in the position, Mulvaney has calmed the West Wing, silenced harmful leaks, and brought a feeling of “teamwork” to the White House. “He’s a joy to work with,” said another top Trump aide. …
- Sen. Bernie Sanders is approaching the 2020 presidential campaign with more than just bluster. In just the past few weeks, he has moved to unionize his staff and offset his campaign’s carbon emissions. Sanders, I-Vt., feels it gives him more authenticity than his Democratic primary challengers. “We know we need to address our emissions through action, not just rhetoric,” said campaign manager Faiz Shakir. …
- Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is lending a hand to the GOP effort on congressional redistricting. He’s set to be the top fundraiser for the National Republican Redistricting Trust formed in 2017 to fight for GOP interests ahead of the 2020 redistricting process. …
- Pulitzer Prize winner and presidential photographer David Hume Kennerly is set to open a new exhibit of behind-the-scenes pictures of former President Gerald R. Ford at the Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Mich. The exhibit, named for his 2007 book Extraordinary Circumstances: The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford, includes lots of family shots. “David’s work not only captured historic images of our father’s presidency, but also the personal side of our family,” Ford daughter Susan Ford Bales.
- Democratic Party boss Tom Perez has picked North Carolina to win the NCAA basketball championship. His brackets show an 81-71 win over Duke University. His former boss, former President Barack Obama, has it just the opposite, Duke over North Carolina.
