George H.W. Bush sang his way to wellness

Certainly good healthcare, prayers and his wife’s constant attention helped former President George H.W. Bush get through a 12-day bout with pneumonia at Houston Methodist Hospital.

But in the end, a little bit of singing helped spring the 41st president back to his Houston home.

His spokesman told Secrets that as Bush recovered last week, he had a different attending doctor, internist Dr. Amy Mynderse. Her name stuck in Bush’s mind.

And on the day he felt good enough to leave, Jan. 30, when she came for a final visit, the president began serenading her with Frank Sinatra’s “Once in Love with Amy.”

Even former first lady Barbara Bush, who also checked in for a brief hospital visit, joined in and they sang the tune together:

Once in love with Amy

Always in love with Amy

Ever and ever fascinated by her

Sets your heart afire to stay
