Trump $1 coin drafted for America’s 250th celebration

A draft $1 coin featuring the image of President Donald Trump has been drawn up in preparation for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the U.S. treasurer confirmed.

Treasurer Brandon Beach made the remarks on X on Friday afternoon. He replied to a post showing the front and back of a coin featuring a profile of Trump’s head on one side and an image similar to one taken after the assassination attempt on Trump last year on the other side.

“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” Beach said. “Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”

A Treasury spokesperson said that a design for the celebration had not yet been selected, but that “this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.”

As president, Trump will oversee the country’s semiquincentennial, which has been branded as America250. Earlier this year, Trump created a task force to plan and promote events surrounding the anniversary, which will take place in less than a year.

Beach’s message also referenced the government shutdown, which has caused hundreds of thousands of federal workers to be furloughed, leading many agencies to stop certain work until Congress can approve legislation to reopen the government.

Republicans in the House have already passed a short-term spending deal, but Democrats are demanding reinstatement of expiring Obamacare subsidies, meaning that the Senate doesn’t have the 60 votes necessary to pass the legislation.
