Kellyanne Conway looking for evidence of FBI informant on Trump campaign

White House counselor and former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said Friday that she has no evidence yet that there was an FBI informant inside the campaign, but that she's looking.

"That is my mission, to be looking for it," Conway said at the White House. "I told you that there 'may' have been, correct?”

Conway spoke to reporters outside the West Wing about an hour after President Trump suggested the FBI had an informant "implanted" for political purposes into his 2016 campaign.

Trump tweeted, “Reports are there was indeed at least one FBI representative implanted, for political purposes, into my campaign for president. It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a 'hot' Fake News story. If true - all time biggest political scandal!”

Trump also tweeted a quote from someone else alleging “a spy” within his campaign, commenting, “Really bad stuff!”

He apparently was referring to a New York Times report that said “at least one government informant met several times with [former unpaid Trump campaign advisers Carter] Page and [George] Papadopoulos, current and former officials said.”

The Times did not report that the informant was embedded in the campaign.

Asked if an informant would have been politically motivated, Conway told reporters: “An FBI informant in a campaign? Why would they be there?”

“If there was an informant, you know what they should have been looking at? Our plan to target 62 counties that went down to 35 counties. Our plan to put Donald Trump and Mike Pence in Michigan,” she said.

Conway said special counsel Robert Mueller's team has “had over a year to prove" Trump campaign wrongdoing "and yet they failed. And yet we’re still talking about a hypothetical about new information that there may have been an FBI informant. There may have been, you’re not willing to accept that.”
