President Trump said in today’s presser that the stories about his campaign staff’s collusion with Russian intelligence were “all fake news.” And once again, he complained about the leaks of classified information that have been used lately to undermine him.
“The people who gave out the information to the press should be ashamed of themselves,” Trump said. “Those are all criminal leaks,” he also said, noting that this is partly the result of his administration not having its appointees in place.
Trump defended former national security adviser Mike Flynn’s conduct in contacting the Russian ambassador in December and discussing, at least briefly, the sanctions that President Obama had just put in place against Russian officials. “He was just doing his job,” Trump said, calling him “a fine man.
But Trump also said he had demanded Flynn’s resignation because “it wasn’t very satisfactory to me” that he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the contents of his call.
Trump also claimed his electoral college victory was the largest since Ronald Reagan — which is not true — although later he pleaded ignorance. “Well, I don’t know,” he said in answer to a reporter’s question. “I was given that information.”
