Former Vice President Joe Biden has been seriously considering challenging President Trump in the 2020 election, and he promises it’s not a bunch of malarkey.
In an interview with NBC’s “The Today Show,” Barack Obama’s right-hand man for eight years was a bit generous in letting the world know about his political aspirations, saying, “I honest to God haven’t made up my mind about that. I’m not closing the door. I’ve been around too long.”
According to multiple reports, Biden has been telling people in private that he plans on running to prevent Trump from winning a second term.
Whether Democrats will actually embrace Biden is another thing. However, before they even think about getting behind Diamond Joe, they need to address his inappropriate behavior with women, particularly in public.
From Biden putting his hands on the shoulders and whispering into the ear of Stephanie Carter (wife of former Defense Secretary Ash Carter) during her husband’s swearing-in ceremony in 2015 to creeping on the female family members and wives of members of Congress, people have laughed off his antics as “oh, that’s just crazy Uncle Joe.” However, back in 2015 before they went under, even Gawker addressed Biden’s inappropriate interactions with women.
As the country is having a reckoning with sexual harassment, assault, and misconduct, even former President Bill Clinton’s legacy is being questioned by mainstream media outlets, liberals, and Democrats. However, what Bill Clinton is accused of doing to women like Juanita Broaddrick and Monica Lewinsky is not comparable to what Joe Biden has done in the public eye. Yet, the major difference is how Democrats are responding to conduct coming from someone who they really admire and has giant political aspirations.
Former President Clinton has already reached his ceiling politically. There’s no direction to go but down. As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes of becoming president a year ago withered away, her husband’s future in politics died along with it. It’s now popular to focus on Bill Clinton’s sex scandals and misconduct because the risks of calling him out have disappeared since Hillary isn’t president.
With Biden, it’s a different story. Biden still hasn’t closed the door on his future in politics. His star is still rising. As some polls have indicated, Biden would win a head-to-head matchup against Trump, 50-41 percent. President Joe Biden is still a real possibility.
Sure, he’s launching a sexual assault trauma center with singer Lady Gaga, a good thing to do, but that doesn’t excuse or negate his behavior. It’s similar to the way that comedian Louis C.K. promoted himself as a “feminist” and helped advance the careers of several women all while he was exposing himself to five different women.
So, if Democrats want to claim some moral high ground over the opposition, they need to clean out their closet, and, yes, that includes holding Biden’s feet to the fire.
