Jeb Bush tweeted about former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies on Tuesday, sounding more like a jilted lover than a former governor and presidential candidate.
“I wonder how our medal totals would be if we had an exclusionary immigration system which we have had for the last few years. My heart swells for all of our medalists, including those whose families have come from far off lands to love our country,” Bush tweeted.
It is no secret there is bad blood between Trump and the Bush family. Trump was critical of Jeb Bush’s support for amnesty. In return, he refused to support Trump during his election and reelection campaign. Suffice to say, there is little love lost between Bush and Trump.
Bush insinuates that immigration policies under the Trump administration would have somehow resulted in an Olympic team comprised of inferior athletes. He provided no evidence of this claim. In fact, before COVID-19, the Trump administration issued more than 1 million green cards a year, a pace similar to previous administrations. Currently, the United States has the most medals at the Tokyo Games, with 79 total, including 25 gold medals. We’re doing just fine.
His attack on Trump, nearly seven months after he left office and during the Olympics, is a bad look. He comes off like a jilted lover still not over their ex. There are just not any facts to support Bush’s claim. We don’t need Jeb Bush’s open borders to make our Olympic teams great again.
