Former Vice President Joe Biden’s 49-year-old son did himself no favors with his national TV debut Tuesday on ABC so I could understand why the network might have felt the need to lend him a helping hand.
During the interview, conducted by ABC’s Amy Robach, who swore at the beginning that “no questions were off limits,” Biden was asked about his bizarre and very lucrative position on the board of a Ukranian gas company that coincided with his father’s political engagement with the country.
“You didn’t have any extensive knowledge about natural gas or Ukraine itself, though,” said Roach.
Biden replied, “Uh, no, but I think I had as much knowledge as anybody else that was on the board, if not more.”
At the very end of that answer, a woman can be heard off camera saying “sorry” before there’s a hard edit and a new line of questioning starts: “In the list that you gave me of the reasons why you’re on that board, you did not list that you are the son of the Vice President.”
See it happen for yourself at the 2:37 mark here.
Wait, wait, wait! Can we go back to the fact that Hunter Biden had just admitted he had no knowledge about the industry nor the host country of a major corporation he was receiving tens of thousands of dollars per month to be advising? And he’s alleging that every other board member was just as equipped. This would be like asking a garbage collector if he wanted to become a hedge fund manager. What other company operates like that?
Why did the woman off camera interject at that moment of the interview with Biden? I asked a spokeswoman for ABC to fill me in on Tuesday but I didn’t hear back.
Shouldn’t we know more about it? Is it true that “no questions were off limits” if what was certainly a handler for Hunter Biden felt entitled to interrupt a very important exchange?
Nothing adds up when it comes to Hunter Biden, his business interests, or how they overlapped with his vice president father’s political activity. Joe Biden himself has acknowledged that there was at least something concerning about what his son was doing, but he let it happen.
We can all see that for ourselves, even after ABC’s helpful assist.
