Liberals, Democrats, legacy media, and radical, left-wing district attorneys have made it a mission to condemn police officers who use force over the past few years. Seemingly, whenever the media show a video of an officer using force, the police are vilified and accused of abusing their authority.
They all want change.
Yet apparently, that change is wrong too. A Baltimore police officer was found guilty for essentially doing what liberals, Democrats, legacy media, and radical, left-wing district attorneys wanted — not using force.
Officer Nguyen, a police officer in Baltimore, was prosecuted for reckless endangerment for allegedly failing to detain a suspect properly in an assault case in August 2020. According to WMAR2, an ABC affiliate in Baltimore, Nguyen was found guilty of not correctly securing and detaining a suspect who was accused of assault. Nguyen’s inaction resulted in the suspect continuing to strike the victim, who was physically incapacitated at the time.
“I applaud my Public Trust and Police Integrity Unit for holding Officer Nguyen accountable for his failure to protect the victim in this case,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “The citizens of Baltimore deserve to feel protected in the presence of a police officer and not fearful that they will stand idly by while an unrestrained suspect attacks them.”
But Mosby, who was defeated in a primary and federally indicted earlier this year, is quite the hypocrite regarding Baltimore’s police officers. She launched her own war against police officers while in office, repeatedly vilifying police officers’ actions in detaining criminals. In May, her office released the names of more than 300 police officers that her office claimed were not credible. Now, she attacks them for not using force.
But this is exactly what liberals, Democrats, legacy media, and radical, left-wing district attorneys wanted: an impotent police force that takes no physical action against violent criminal suspects. Police officers were called everything from Nazis to terrorists. They were accused of being racists who hunted down and abused people of color. Left-wing prosecutors arrested police officers for using force to detain criminals who didn’t comply. Now, they’re arresting police officers for not using enough force.
This is just the latest example of the harms of woke policies in the country’s criminal justice system. People who sit behind a desk, not in the field, not dealing with violent criminals who aren’t complying with police officers, are forming misguided opinions on when to use force and how much force should be used. Yet these same people cannot properly differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate use.
Any police officer who doesn’t do their job should obviously be held accountable. Every rational person would agree with that. But maybe people that don’t know what it is like to be in the field or deal with a violent criminal who is refusing to comply with a police officer looking to deescalate a situation shouldn’t be the ones consistently judging police officers who use force. But, at this point, why would anyone even want to become a police officer?
As the Left has shown, officers are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
