Philadelphia Inquirer blames bullets, not criminals, for murder

Left-wing journalists will blame everything except the criminal when it comes to gun crime. At the Philadelphia Inquirer, a journalist blamed “buying bullets” as the main reason a homicide occurred last month. It’s the latest example of the Left finding any other excuse besides the person committing the crime to explain violent criminal behavior. In reality, the main cause for the murder was the criminal and the court system that kept him on the streets instead of in jail.

Consider the charges against Yaaseen Bivins and the court’s subsequent inexplicable leniency.

Bivins, 21, is accused of shooting and killing a 14-year-old and wounding four other teenagers outside a Philadelphia high school last month. In July 2020, Bivins was drunk and illegally street racing when his car struck a pregnant woman and killed her unborn baby. In August 2020, Bivins was convicted only of aggravated assault by vehicle. He was acquitted of third-degree murder and conspiracy charges. Additionally, the courts dismissed any DUI-related charges to the incident, and a judge inexplicably lowered his initial bail from $1 million to $170,000.

IN PENNSYLVANIA, JOSH SHAPIRO IS FOR CRIMINALS. DOUG MASTRIANO IS FOR PEOPLE’S SAFETY

Jim Kenney, the city’s incompetent, radical, left-wing mayor, echoed this stupid talking point about a felon being able to buy bullets. Kenney, like every other person on the Left, would rather blame inanimate objects than the actions of a criminal or the policies of a justice system that allowed the criminal to roam free on the streets instead of being incarcerated.

“When a convicted felon can walk into a ‘reputable gun shop’ and buy ammunition and go kill somebody, there’s something wrong with that setup,” Kenney said.

Kenney didn’t mention the court’s decision to lower Bivins’s bail significantly, of course. These policies are contributing to the massive crime surge that, each day, is leaving innocent people dead, the majority of whom are black people. It is their ideologies that are causing the bodies of black people to pile up on the streets. The horrific Philadelphia court system has blood on its hands for all its systemic failures of prioritizing the freeing of criminals.

Bivins is a convicted felon who should have been in jail. Instead, Philadelphia’s criminal justice system allowed him to go back on the streets. This, not buying bullets, is the root of the problem. But these pesky little details aren’t important to the Philadelphia Inquirer and Kenney’s narrative. They know highlighting this fact runs counter to their propaganda to persuade people to focus on gun control activism and hide the horrific criminal justice policies of the city.

The Left typically uses any one of a number of excuses for such criminal behavior. Morality and individual responsibility are obtuse concepts to the Left, especially agenda-driven leftist hacks in the media. They will always blame things like a felon being able to “buy bullets” as the primary reason a murder occurred, instead of the pertinent issues like radical left-wing criminal justice reform and judges lowering bail that keep criminals on the streets to murder people.

For Kenney, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and other left-wing politicos, it’s easier to deflect and distract, feigning outrage about buying bullets, rather than talk about the real issue. The Left created this disaster, so now they try to do anything possible to distract the public from their failures. Meanwhile, innocent people keep dying as a result. It’s flawed logic, provides no realistic solution, and nothing more than political grandstanding that will do nothing to solve the issue of urban violent crime in the city.
