Biden, like Trump, is carrying out a fact-free crusade against Georgia

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are more alike than most people would care to admit, particularly when it comes to their habit of lying. Nowhere is this more on display than with Biden’s ongoing, fact-free crusade against Georgia.

According to Politico, Biden is going to use his Tuesday speech in Georgia to once again lie about “voter suppression.” Biden, whose previous unhinged comments about Georgia include accusing the state of “Jim Crow on steroids,” is going to be “doubling down, kicking it into another gear,” and “going right to the belly of the beast” of voter suppression, according to White House adviser Cedric Richmond.

Georgia’s big crime is being a Republican-run state that wanted to make its voting procedures clear and uniform after the chaotic pandemic election in 2020. The law, according to experts by way of a Washington Post fact-check, has a net effect of expanding “the opportunities to vote for most Georgians, not limit them.”

There are only two major restrictions. The first is extending voter ID requirements to mail-in ballots, which in the process replaces the less reliable signature verification process with driver’s license or state ID numbers. The second is the shortening of the mail-in period from a whopping six months to a still sizable 11 weeks. Drop boxes, which were a temporary measure for the pandemic and were not used prior to 2020, will still be authorized on a more limited scale.

This is what Biden is comparing to Jim Crow. Most of the provisions in the bill were supported by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, both of whom became targets of Trump for refusing to humor his delusional campaign to overturn the election results in the state. Biden and his administration, meanwhile, took Georgia to court over its voting law in an egregiously partisan lawsuit, while Biden will continue his pressure campaign that convinced Major League Baseball to move All-Star Weekend out of Atlanta.

The only difference between Biden’s crusade against Georgia and Trump’s is that Trump’s was personal. Biden’s is entirely political, rallying the partisans to try and convince them to go out and vote because the end of democracy is upon us. They are both despicable and both serve to undermine election integrity and self-governance. When it comes to Georgia, Trump and Biden are two sides of the same coin.
