Activists and journalists have left Minneapolis, but the homicides haven’t

While the racial crusade of liberals continues everywhere, from athletics to media to the State Department, it seems that everyone has forgotten where this all started.

Minneapolis, exploited by activists and politicians, is still reaping the consequences.

The death of George Floyd started a whirlwind of racial obsession. With so many people feeling isolated and alone amid the pandemic, leftist activists forcefully attempted to racialize every aspect of our lives. Minneapolis was the jumping-off point as activists, some of them pretending to be journalists, flocked to the city to push their own agenda. But since the guilty verdict handed down against former police officer Derek Chauvin, Minneapolis has been left behind by the national narrative.

By the end of June, the city had seen 42 homicides, a 44% increase from the same time period last year. Halfway through the year, the city is halfway toward matching its 2020 homicide total of 84, its second-highest total ever after 97 homicides in 1995 earned the city the nickname “Murderapolis.” July has added three more so far, for a total of 45.

The headlines are grim no matter where you look. In north Minneapolis, five children have been shot in just the last two months. Residents don’t feel safe letting their children play outside. The city is facing such a police shortage that a judge ruled it needs to have at least 730 officers by the end of June 2022. The city is projected to be over 60 officers short of that goal.

Meanwhile, everyone has moved on. President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are pretending that not allowing 24-hour drive-thru voting is the same as Jim Crow. The State Department is asking the ghouls at the United Nations to determine if the United States is racist. Black Lives Matter, the get-rich-quick scheme that put itself at the center of Floyd’s death, is now taking the side of the police officers sent by Cuba’s dictatorship to crack the skulls of pro-democracy protesters.

Minneapolis never mattered to any of these people. The city was nothing more than the location that happened to be unlucky enough to serve as ground zero for the latest liberal cause du jour. Minneapolis didn’t even matter to its own politicians. The City Council let itself get caught up in the activist hype, throwing its police department under the bus to please anti-police activists. Rep. Ilhan Omar, the social media influencer who happens to represent Minneapolis in Congress, has nothing to say about the soaring homicides in the city.

It is just like Ferguson, Missouri, all over again. They never cared about the lives of the people who actually live in the city before or after the activist circus came to town. Anti-police activists and their media allies were there only to push a narrative, and Minneapolis is left to pick up the pieces.
